HistoryBeginning a few years ago, micro financing has been growing rapidly to provide financial services to low-income clients having little or no access to the formal financial sector. Although some progress has been made, there is still a great necessity to raise and properly manage the funds. Amifi SARL was created in 2010 to take on this responsibility, based on its founder’s expertise and background in telecommunications and management. The idea of A MI FI (Angels of Micro Finance) came from the existing concept of business angels, a wealthy group of individuals who are usually entrepreneurs that finance start-ups and personally connect to the business, and put a socially responsible spin on the concept. The double ‘A’ in the logo symbolizes the entrepreneur in the emerging country shadowed in green by the person providing the financial support, representing the union of the two parties. Using the outstanding development of new technology and the internet, Amifi created a community of microfinance angels, individual socially-responsible contributors, interested in helping to develop small businesses in emerging countries. The website is possible by the joint effort of a multinational team, composed mainly of volunteers. The site was developed in India and Israel with valuable support from Ireland, U.S., Mali, Spain, and France. Amifi’s website was launched in the 3 main languages of the United Nations (English, French, and Spanish) in order to be accessible to a large community of people around the world. |
